Hi all. I have a concrete pathway that wraps around my back porch to an outdoor shower. I want to put some brick columns along the outside of the pathway and build a trellis/fence in between the columns to create a natural privacy wall for walking around the walkway to the shower. I'm looking for a good plant to utilize for the privacy wall. It will be about 6' high.

I'd also like something that flowers. I've been considering confederate jasmine, peggy martin rose, clemantis, wisteria, etc.

Ideally, I'd like to not have to prune it 4x a year. I have confederate jasmine on a pergola right now and I feel like it requires significant maintenance to keep under control. Being that this will be a natural wall/fence, I'd like it to be maintained.

What are the H&G board's thoughts on my options? Any other suggestions?

If going with Wisteria you will need to make the trellis pretty hefty since they get to be some seriously heavy vines over the years and will tear apart anything built lightweight.

I know this grows wild, but have you given any thought to honeysuckle? I had that on a fence at my last house and it smelled great when in bloom.

Depending on the space a Mandeville or allamanda would be a good fit. They would die back or be annuals in N. LA though. What's your zone??

Most commonly available vines in the South grow fast as heck tbh, especially once theyre established. You're not looking for fried ice but it's close. I'm sure there are more obscure plants but you may have to order/grow from seed.

I'd go for the roses and look for a good heirloom type that doesn't need a ton of attention.

I have confederate jasmine at my house along the far side of my patio and I really like it. Hard to beat when it’s in full bloom like it is right now!
