"Commanders" is the most boring generic nickname in sports. The Cleveland Indians did no better with "Guardians". Absolutely meaningless names. Its a rare opportunity for a marketing exec to rename/name a sports team from one of the big 3 leagues. And they just pissed these opportunities away. Sad

Commanders vs. Cowboys. .I mean, the fricking mob ruined something historic (not just in football but America's history.... and every kid playing outside)....Cowboys and Indians.

I really don't think ancestors of Native Americans give a shite (they have bigger problems but the government weighs in on a PR stunt...and now all Natives are all good and prosperous on the Rez because the Washington Football team has changed their name.

I saw a random poll where most Natives loved the Washington Redskins because it kept them relevant and it was their team. America has done a remarkable job of making a people on this Continent, the minority of minorities... No say, no voice in government....(Elizabeth Warren doesn't count of course). At least give Native Americans the Redskins! .The term was never seen by them as a pejorative. In fact there's historical texts that they coined the phrase to describe themselves to white settlers.

Guardians

They had an infinitely more awesome name, the Cleveland Spiders, right out of their own distant history and they chose.....that, instead.
