The problem with that logic is a BI trade will likely be seen by the players as a downgrade for money reasons unless you bring back a similar talent in the trade.
Now if it's a miscalculation and it makes us worse, well then I'm not sure how much it matters if you've lost the locker room or if they're totally bought in, either way you're screwed.
So I don't see that as a reason not to do a trade.

On top of that, you in theory drafted a replacement for CJs shooting in Hawkins. Shift Trey to starter and give Hawk 6th man minutes and how much do you miss CJ’s shooting?

I'm not saying don't trade BI, but you can't trade a quarter for dimes. They have to find a better deal than that if they move him.

He does, and if there weren't a salary cap/tax you probably don't think about trading him. However, I'm not suggesting year 2 Hawk = 80% of CJ. I'm suggesting Trey to the starting lineup and Hawk getting a big enough role off the bench allows you to money ball most of CJ's production.
