I do rideshare on the side. For me personally, they have to really tick me off for me to give below five stars. The previous poster is right in that you rate right after the ride and are often just trying to get to the next one, so my standard is five stars. In hundreds and hundreds of trips, I've probably given below five stars 5-10 times.

The biggest things that will get me to lower your rating: keeping me waiting a long time, especially when I've having to stop right in an awkward pickup spot (like the middle of the street), smelling (no, I'm not immune to your BO), if you're blatantly rude (making a passive-aggressive comment).

I can't remember if I've rated below a 5 for this, but something that definitely risks it is playing backseat driver. I know where I'm going, I have directions, I don't need you piping in from the backseat.

However, 98% of people are either great or tolerable. And while tipping in cash basically assures a 5 star, if you don't do that, I don't count it against you when rating you.

probably lower because I cancelled a trip one-time because the driver was taking forever to show up. Like literally sitting in his car a mile away not moving for what seemed like forever.
