Batteries have been getting worse over the years. The recycled elements aren’t as pure. Some battery brands are definitely better than others. Check consumer reports type sites.

I think it’s by design. You used to could find a five-year battery, but now they are hard to find. The battery makers like that money coming in every 3 years.

I noticed this when I replaced my last battery at Walmart. Had one of their Everstart batteries. It lasted 5 years and had "5 year warranty" printed on the front. When I picked up the same model for replacement, I noticed it now states "3 year warranty" on the battery.
