So what?

So what?! Are you serious? Have we devolved so much as a society and species that we condone and even celebrate locking our fellow humans In cages even though we know it doesn’t serve much of a purpose?

These prisoners in El Salvador aren't getting the death penalty.
the post I replied to encouraged ”putting them down.”

but the fact remains that what they have done has worked to deter violent crime. It's undeniable. They've gone from over 100 murders per 100,000 to fewer than 5 in a very short time. It has worked.

Their gun laws are much different from ours. Their society is much different from ours. What works in other countries isn’t guaranteed to work here.

Our carceral system is a total failure. It creates better criminals and more traumatized Americans. It’s just a money pit at this point. Making it more traumatic won’t fix it.

Do a little research cubbies on which countries have the lowest crime rates. They all have a few things in common. Punishment works in every country and society. When I was coming up through school you got your arse busted when you screwed up. It was a hell of a deterrent to not screw up. El Salvador has put down the gauntlet. Basically saying FAFO.

Not surprised at all to read you don't see the value in protecting law abiding citizens from murderers and rapists.

I mean... if these scum are locked in cages, then they certainly can't be bothering those of us who know how to act amongst other people, now can they?
