As of April 2024, more than 1,550 people have been executed in the United States since the death penalty has been implemented, and more than 8,700 defendants have been sentenced to death. However, since 1972, at least 190 people have been exonerated, which means that for every eight people executed, one person on death row has been exonerated.

Looks like the threat of execution isn’t a strong deterrent in this country. Nor is it a good way to get rid of guilty people considering more than 10% of people sentenced to death are exonerated.

It’s great to see more small government conservatives coming out to support limiting government powers by entrusting the government to execute its own citizens

So what? We're not even talking about execution. These prisoners in El Salvador aren't getting the death penalty.

I agree with your overall point—I'm not willing to trade the civil liberties and protections from government that we have in America for the type of law enforcement that they have implemented in El Salvador—but the fact remains that what they have done has worked to deter violent crime. It's undeniable. They've gone from over 100 murders per 100,000 to fewer than 5 in a very short time. It has worked.

They aren't. By definition. They are populists on the right.
