If you're going to rent a car, I'd suggest stopping by a grocery store that has a styrofoam ice chest and load up whatever alcohol/cold snacks you feel like bringing. You'll find that almost every single LSU tailgate is extremely hospitable to opposing fans making their first trip to campus. Walking on campus you'll hear a ton of "Tiger Bait!" but they'll also offer their food to you if they're nice enough. Just drop the fact that it's your first time visiting and t most will want to make sure you try their food.

You can park on campus by the West Campus Apartments, the UREC, or the Hayfield lots (all free to park). Parking ON campus in paid spots really isn't convenient unless you have a tailgate to setup. When the time comes, I'll repost my maps I have made in the past to highlight local parking to access campus. LSU also does the same but they don't use a satellite view.

I'd suggest packing some frozen water bottles and letting them defrost in the car so that they're ready when you get back. Tiger Stadium charges for all concessions, including water. It's not like the Rose Bowl where they have those water stations and you can refill at will. 9/24 will be hot and muggy no matter what time of day it is.
