St Aug is struggling. It is not holding up like it used. The current way the weather is set up is causing major issues. In my area this really kicked off in 2021. 6 inches of snow and 129 hour below freezing. A lot of St Aug died, what didn't die suffered from take all patch fungus........then died. Zoysia, which was a little less used is now starting to take off. Certain varieties are shade tolerant and stand up to disease and cold better.
And yes, I do believe that bermuda is the dominant grass. If you were to round up your entire yard and return it to dirt, bermuda would very soon pop up.

in you opinion, what's the best zoysia for shade tolerance and disease resistance in baton rouge?

I'm coming around to ronk's mindset lately on bermuda.
I had a pretty bad case of large patch a few years ago when we had a really wet Fall season, and that shite is totally uncontrollable now every Fall, even with alternating Azoxystrobin and propiconazole each year (monthly applications). So when spring rolls around, the grass takes forever to green up and fill in the diseased areas. I'm this close to converting over to the dark side, likely will be renting a sod cutter to rip out all my St. Aug and replacing with bermuda soon.

So I've got about a 1' x 1' spot of bermuda in the middle of my ~1,200 sq ft. of St aug...
I wonder, with the full growing season in front of us, if I could have a bermuda lawn by October....
Thoughts??
