Ronk’s opinion, which I agree with, is that Bermuda is the alpha lawn because the other southern lawn types are much more susceptible to heat, drought, fungus and disease.

I would say pests, but Bermuda is more susceptible to army worms which prefer the highly fertilized and finer blades of Bermuda. Trust me, I know

St Aug is struggling. It is not holding up like it used. The current way the weather is set up is causing major issues. In my area this really kicked off in 2021. 6 inches of snow and 129 hour below freezing. A lot of St Aug died, what didn't die suffered from take all patch fungus........then died. Zoysia, which was a little less used is now starting to take off. Certain varieties are shade tolerant and stand up to disease and cold better.


And yes, I do believe that bermuda is the dominant grass. If you were to round up your entire yard and return it to dirt, bermuda would very soon pop up.
