The problem is YOU CAN stare at the sun due to the eclipse.

Go stare directly at a normal sunny day, your eyes start to melt, water and shut in 2 seconds. You can’t hold them open long enough.

Because the eclipse is 20x less bright, you’re able to stare at it longer thus getting direct sunlight in portions of your eye for extended periods of time….causing damage.
