No I understand that well, ran the triple option in HS. But my point was that our defense, in particularly DE's and OLB's, did a poor job of staying "at home." You saw a lot of guys players get caught chasing the ball and taking themselves out of position.
A prime example is our DE's not recognizing screen plays and getting sucked into the QB allowing backs to slide in behind them and pick up big yards. I understand that the triple option is designed differently than the spread and deception is a larger part of the triple option. My point was strictly that our defensive players have struggled with chasing the ball all year long, maybe these types of drills (not necessarily option specific) would have been helpful a lot earlier than now.

I agree with that comment, but I think that had a lot more to do with blown secondary coverages. The ends and tackles rarely seemed to be out of normal position to make a play. The LBs were just a little inexperienced and as the season wore on they became less confident in each other and it seemed to unravel. With that being said, when there is a lack of confidence it creates a sense of panic with players trying to do too much and "ball chasing".

The horse is dead, you can stop beating it now. We all know our defense wasn't very good this year. Way to start a thread about the GT game and turn it into another reduntant thread about how bad we were this year. I'm sure this must be the first time this season that they've run drills of this nature.
This one is just more specific to the option.
