So it took playing an option team in the 13th game of the season to finally teach defensive players not to chase the ball and to stay at home. That explains a lot. This is a defensive fundamental that doesn't just apply to the option.

I understand your comment, but don't confuse the spread option with the triple option. The ball is hidden much better in the triple option is much more difficult to defend when it is run properly. However, in most offensive schemes balance is incorporated and passing is a relevant and realistic play. In the triple option offense the pass is kind-of like a trick play.

The triple option is designed to frustrate the DEs and hope that you somehow forget to tackle the dive.

Umm...Players have different responsibilities depending on the type of offense we're playing. Don't act like we should already be prepared for this. We certainly haven't faced anything like this during the year.
