Funny thing is it's only this difficult because they've "simplified" everything.
i had this problem with eero and there's this fricking weirdo 'turn on legacy 2.4ghz network for 10 minutes' option that is BURIED and where you get to try & scramble to hook as many home automation devices as you can before the time runs out.
i have a vanilla ATT fiber modem/router ATM and luckily i had the option to set up both a 2.4 and 5 separately.
i dont know why they gotta make everything hard.
some devices just dont need 5ghz network and i dont see that ending anytime soon. i just set up a new MEROSS garage opener and Tesla wall charger and had to jump on the 2.4 for both.

Not only do many devices not need 5ghz, but many can't even use it. This is particularly true for home automation devices, an industry that is ramping up, not down. Range and signal penetration are far more important than bandwidth, so you are right I don't see 2.4ghz devices going away
