In the MTV Unplugged performance shortly before his death, his singing of 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night?' was added to that set list after Kurt caught Courtney cheating on him.
What is the motive for killing him?
Geffen because of the aforementioned quitting of the music business. Music producers are fricking psychos, and tragically dead musicians sell like hotcakes for a long time.
I always thought it was odd that Courtney Love had a short-lived but not insignificant movie career after this happened.

This theory is so ridiculous and is not based in any sort of reality. Divorcing a broad very rarely if ever ends her gravy train if you divorce her, especially if you’re well off financially. There’s alimony, child support among many things to consider. Murdering him would most certainly end the gravy train though because he’s no longer around to produce more music. She wouldn’t get child support or alimony either. Truth be told, she's only entitled to whatever is left after his estate is settled. Sure Nirvana remains popular 30 years later but there’s no way she could have foreseen that 10, 20 or 30 years into the future.

Her movie career ended because she warned aspiring actresses not to go to a hotel room with Harvey Weinstein if he invited you.
