45 miles in major metro traffic. That is easily 1.5 hours on a good day.
Not ideal...but people do it. You have to be willing to leave earlier in the morning.

Plus, there's a certain point on the corporate ladder where you can start work at like 10:30am daily and get away with it because people can wait on you

Come on Chicken, you know that there is more early morning traffic in Houston than probably any major city in the country. I-10 is rolling before 0530. I landed at IAH at 0700 one day, and it took me two hours to get home in Katy (heading outbound.)
HP did a study a few decades ago that the greatest predictor of someone quitting was whether their commute was over about 40 minutes or not, regardless of industry. How DFW deals with Plano/Dallas/Arlington, I have no idea.
