Have to attend a wedding later this month and have a mostly free day until the evening

I like the Farmers Market, the NC Museum of History and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences (and I'm not even a big museum person). The two museums are across the sidewalk from one another and could easily fill a day. If you have kids with you, I like Marbles and Pullen Park. For hiking/biking/etc., Umstead State Park isn't too far outside of downtown.

Things to do in Raleigh in April
Might find something here that fits your schedule & agree with NCTigerFan’s suggestions.

There are a bunch of great breweries downtown. Just pace yourself for the wedding!

You could check NCSU, UNC, and Duke's baseball schedules to see if a game is going on.
Otherwise you can go downtown and check out the bars. Whiskey Kitchen is a good one and Parkside is a good restaurant nearby.

Where’s the wedding? Lots to do in the area, so where you’re heading to/staying may dictate what’s most convenient.
NCTiger’s Raleigh suggestions are great. If you’re going to be in downtown, there are a ton of great places to drink a beer. I’m partial to Glenwood with Beergarden (3 stories and tons of outdoor space), Hibernian (Irish pub with nice rooftop/deck), Tobacco Road (nothing special but great sports bar and nice game room), and Lucky B’s (local favorite dive bar owned by former Hurricanes players…cheapest place to drink in Raleigh)
