To what level of responsibility? Exactly what and how much of it should they be responsible for?

Well, I'm not going to pretend that I'm an expert in LE, but the requirements to become a police officer should be higher, they should receive more training, and there should be stiff penalties for "mistakes" that they make. They need to be held to a higher standard than they are currently.

ETA: it's absurd to have some loser with a high school diploma running around with a gun and choosing who lives and who dies

100% agreed. But you said "raise the level of responsibility".

What does that even mean? What should front line police officers actually be "responsible" for? What would it even look like to "raise the level of responsibility" for them? Make them "more responsible" for various crimes in their districts? How would that be defined, quantified, operationalized, etc?

Raising (or re-applying old) admissions standards is not the same as defining what local officers are actually responsible for.

It's a sweet thought and a nice thing to say, philosophically. I just don't understand how it would be put into practice.

We have massive service gaps now, I imagine most cops in 20 years will be Hispanic.
