#7 green at City Park in BR

Didn't they just completely redo this green recently? It's currently a wavy mess where it looks like any drainage ruts they built into it have sunk turning it into a funhouse mirror of a putting surface, with still very little grass on it. Arguably worse than it was before.
This little course has so much potential and could be Baton Rouge's version of Audubon Park in NOLA. So frustrating, especially with how bad LSU is. What's the deal?

Audubon has found a way to make a short course stay in consistently decent shape and feel like some effort has been put into it, and I think even less of NOLA's government entities.
Why can't we?

I concur. It’s terrible to play on.

I left a survey submission for BREC golf because it's more frustrating the more I think about it. We'll see if they respond.

City Park has so much potential, but the condition and attention to detail almost always disappoints. Why can't we make City Park more like Baton Rouge's version of Audubon Park? I think I speak for most golfers in the area that we'd happily pay 2x or 3x more at the counter and visit far more often if conditions, landscaping, and facilities were improved. Even a couple of the newly redone greens, especially #7, leave a lot to be desired. Unlike every other course in the area but Webb, it's a fantastic piece of land for a 9-hole golf course that's central to the city, so how can we start treating it as such? I'd honestly love to continue this conversation if you could respond back to [my email].

Say what?

So you would rather continue paying $12 and it be the goat ranch that it currently is, than pay $25 if it was renovated to much nicer conditions, landscaping, and overall experience?

Three times equals $36 for a nine hole course. I don’t see City Park being worth that no matter the condition at this point.

The most expensive green fee at City Park for 18 holes is $16 on the weekends. Audubon charges a $50 green fee (again, not including cart) for the same time and # of holes.
I'd happily pay $18 for 9 and $30 for 18 to walk City Park, and more on the weekends, if they transformed it into something we could be proud of.
Anyone who bitches about course conditions but only expects to pay $10 is part of the problem.

Who are these people that are bitching about conditions and expecting to pay $10 that you speak of? Haven’t seen those people post on here.

So you're happy with its current state then?

Again I ask who are these people that bitch about the current condition but only expect to pay $10. Waiting for your answer first. I haven’t seen those posts on here.

I'm just not sure of the purpose of your posts at this point, other than the fact that $36 is far too much no matter what it might be turned into.
Either way, to get back on track, I'd like to know some answers as to why we've let it continue to be poorly run or funded or both. This course could be awesome with the elevation changes

The purpose is to find out who these people you were saying are the big problem that don’t want to spend more but bitch about the condition. Those are the people you say are the problem so exactly where are these people you speak of
Perhaps you’re just into exaggeration?

I said they're part of the problem, and you can find them in any old Webb or City Park thread.
But since you've beaten this dead horse into the ground already, you're in one of 3 camps...
Camp A: City Park's conditions are poor, I wish it was better, and I don't want to pay more than $10 to play golf (these people I'm referring to).
Camp B: City Park's conditions are poor, but I'm ok with these conditions because I don't want to pay more than the bottom-of-the-barrel price that they're currently charging
Camp C: City Park's conditions are poor, I wish it was better, and I will pay more in line with market rates if it was made better (you've pretty much already said you're not this)
I'm genuinely not sure where you belong, so what would you like City Park to look like and for what price?

Here’s the background on City Park as I’ve volunteered there and have played it regularly since the early 80s when it truly was an unplayable course that charged about $3 a round.
There was a major renovation in 2007 in which the fairways and greens were immensely improved. Several of the holes were also changed. Before then the green fee was about $6. It has steadily increased to it’s current rate. The seventh green has always had issues possibly due to the proximity to the cypress stumps This hole was totally renovated about a year ago but obviously still is a challenge to maintain.
I believe the course is positioned by BREC to be basically what it is. A fun little nine hole starter course for youngsters and college kids as well a place where seniors can play. I think it will likely always be “affordable“ to the non-serious golfer
Perhaps over time this will change but In my lifetime I would not expect a drastic revamping of the course some of you envision as I don’t think this is the vision BREC has for this course.

Despite the derailment, thank you, that is actually an informative post. To be fair, $6 in 2007 with inflation is about what they're charging now.
IMO, green fees under $40 fall under this category. Just about any other activity that lasts multiple hours outside of a walk around the LSU lakes costs this much. Junior rates could be half price.
Judging by their current decisions, I don't think so either, which is my whole point considering there's about to only be 1 other public golf course within BR city limits (Webb). It would still be a short 9-hole course that's friendly to kids and senior golfers, and still affordable even if they double (or triple if they did a complete reno with quality staff, techniques, and materials) the price.
It's too nice of a piece of land for a golf course to just let it remain as it is today, despite getting plenty of play. I just like to see the course for what it could be for the golfers and everyone else in the area.

I know they've battled with the stumps in the past, but there's no way that the stumps are what's causing the current green to look like it does now? Feels like a poor install or mismanagement or something.

Isn’t #7 the green next to the road before you pass under the train tracks to get to the next hole?
Usually the issue is irrigation but there is a lake 10 ft from the green. Could water it with a $50 pump.

Yeah, I just walked past the seventh green and the cypress stumps and cypress trees are no longer affecting it. The green really is in poor condition.
Sandy spots in the middle of it. Rough patches. Unintentional undulations.
Not good after a redo just a year ago.
