32 shorter distances is fine especially if you're just getting into it. Majority of sacalait fisherman have the 32 because they only set their distance to 50ft or so anyhow. The reason pros use the 34 (and even the 62 saltwater version) is it's got better clarity at distance. If you do want to swap to the 34 in the future all you've gotta do is swap the transducer out and plug it into your black box, rest of the setup is identical.
