The real reason is ESPN. They wanted the Chicago market over the Lafayette market. N. Ill is the only Ill team in a bowl.

They won SIX games and finished .500. As the article itself says, "it’s always much more fun to cast aspersions than point the finger at yourself." Idiots.

I'm kinda surprised we weren't #1 on their list, our bad season is causing us to slip

It probably did not hurt that one of the athletic admins of N. Ill. was the exec director of the bowl from 1994-2005.
