Realistically I wish there was a solution for public schools to be more answerable to parents and better run, but I'm not sure this is the way to obtain that. In a world where kids cannot be left behind, a system always has to cater to the lowest common denominator. As a kid who went through some of that, it just shreds the upper level students. Nobody gave a shite if I was intellectually stimulated, they cared that the knuckle draggers and hooligans managed to scrape enough together to go to the next grade.
End of the day, if the parents don't give a shite, chances are the kid is going to be a menace. If the parents do give a shite, chances are the kid will be at least below average.
