One interpretation of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes is that Jesus actually did NOT duplicate anything. When the kid came up and shared what meager food he had, Jesus blessed it and began distributing it. The people who showed up just hoping for a free lunch felt ashamed after watching that kid give away what little he had. Basically, everyone in the crowd freely shared with each other the food they brought with them, and there was more than enough for everyone. The miracle wasn’t that Jesus used magic to create a bunch of food out of thin air, but that he was able to convince a massive crowd to all voluntarily share with one-another everything they had.
