Their holy book straight up commands them to do it. When encountering unbelievers, Muslims are ordered to do one of three things:
-Convert the unbeliever
-Tax/Subjugate/Enslave the unbeliever
-Murder the unbeliever in Allah's name
Bonus: Lying and deception are permissible if it advances the cause of Allah and/or Islam. This is the doctrine of taqqiya.
