Is it so crazy to think that some people just find Mulkey to be kind of abrasive and hard to like, in a totally apolitical way?

I'm sure there are a lot of people like that, just like people hated Saban for apolitical reasons. However, a lot of it is for her:
perceived homophobia
perceived conservatism
perceived covid skepticism.

It's all over Reddit. I personally think some of those are pretty shaky accusations. She supposedly told Griner and some of the others at Baylor to tone it down at a conservative Baptist college. BFD. That was just advising them to read the room. If they didn't like it they shouldn't have gone to Baylor. You can't be a homophobe and coach women's sports. You wouldn't get any recruits. I don't know what her political leanings are. And she rippped her mask off at the introductory LSU press conference. Again, BFD. Covid was on the wane by then.

There's also a "team Staley" vs "team Mulkey" thing going one, with some racial overtones to it.

Kim is as loyal as they come. She is a straight shooter and doesn't sugar coat things. I love those qualities in her.

I've known Kim just about my entire life and there is not a racial bone or thought in her body. The media would love to spin a racial overtone. I guess by definition, " one coach is black and one coach is white ". Anything other than that is complete bullshite.

She's been an elite athlete her entire life. At 12 yrs old, she was the 1st and only girl on the boys Little League baseball in Hammond. She pitched and played catcher, made the All Star teams and was a baller.

She's not a homophobe either. Think about this regarding Brittney Griner: Your the coach at Baylor,
one of the nation’s most prominent Christian colleges with a strict Baptist beliefs. At the time when Brittney was there, Baylor Administration had a student policy on sexual misconduct that specifically forbade “homosexual acts" and same sex relationships. As the head coach, you want to protect your players - especially the super star gay player.
quote:

"It was more of a unwritten law [to not discuss your sexuality] ... it was just kind of, like, one of those things, you know, just don't do it," Griner said. "They kind of tried to make it, like, 'Why put your business out on the street like that?'"

It was a Baylor policy. As a coach, Baylor is your boss. There's not a coach out there that would want see their three-time Big 12 Player of the Year to be not-in-good-standing with the Baylor Administration over what they and the Student Handbook defines as "Sexual misconduct".

Definitely playing a lot on Mulkey the white woman with a country accent vs the black woman out of Philly.
It’s so juicy for the woke media types to grab and run with.
