Wrong.

The purpose of separation of church and state was to assure churches the state wasn’t going to meddle in church affairs. Somewhere, someone played the reverse card on it.

Are you saying that it shouldn't work both ways? That the church should in fact be able to meddle in state affairs?

Absolutely. A preacher should be able to guide their flock on political matters. There is absolutely no reason a preacher, priest, rabbi, iman, whatever shouldn't be able to tell their congregation what a particular politician or bill means to their way of life.

None at all.

Remember that the Constitution and BOR were intended to be safeguards against the government infringing on rights of the citizens, not the other way around.

As others have said, this fictious "separation of church and state" concept was intended to prevent government from dictating the specific beliefs and practices of the citizens, not keep religion away from the public square. The founders, themselves, were very religious and prayed publicly in their official capacities, setting aside national days of prayer.
