Phonics was a tried and true method of learning to read. Why they ever moved away from it was ridiculous. My kids went to a private school that used it. Now my grandkids go. They all learn to read. It’s impressive to see 4 yr olds begin to sound out words, read signs while driving. Also, when the “new” method didn’t work guess how they taught them? Phonics.

The change from past methods was all because of bureaucrats needing to justify their jobs by changing something that was already working just for the sake of change.

The ironic thing is that these same bureaucrats themselves learned how to read using the same systems that they replaced.
