I like full, warm midrange. I like a polite, smooth top end. When I paired the S40s with class AB SS amps, vocals got way too lean and cymbal crashes and the top end of trumpets were too brittle. So, you are probably correct that the tube amp re-fills the mids. It definitely rounds off the top. I would like to try class A SS amps (Pass Labs INT-25) but that is not in the cards any time soon. Regardless, the little 6L6 amp sounds great with jazz and vocals. Soundstage and imaging are great. There is little low frequency impact and the accuracy lacks but that is a trade-off I am willing to make.

I almost mentioned how jazz lovers really seem to like the 6L6 output amps but didn't because I don't know anybody who listens to much jazz.

I look at speakers like ice cream flavors. No speaker is even close to perfect so it really comes down to what you prefer. The only thing I can't abide is speaker flaws that are a result of poor engineering vs a choice in voicing. Things like driver ringing, port resonances too close to the pass band, and poor integration at the crossover point(s). It is like Kieth Richards and (rock gods forgive me) Jimmy Page being "sloppy". Their slop is for a reason and intentional whereas my slop on a guitar is from being a hack. I'll pay to hear Richards and Page play, I'll pay someone like me to stop playing. My only issue with Dynaudio is they quite selling their raw drivers to the DIY community but luckily Scan Speak has a similar engineering ethos.
