I'm not from BR, so I wouldn't begin to know the oldest bar. The Advocate columnist Smiley Anders has referenced his time at The Patio bar on Drusilla?/Jefferson?...I forget. Is it still there? Never been there myself.
It’s still there. Was my go to spot when I lived off of Jefferson in 2017-18. Was always the youngest person in there (27 at the time) and always had a great time playing oldies on the juke box for the regulars and taking shots of crown with the bartenders John and Molly
That was back when I was single. I brought my new gf (now fiance’) there thanksgiving night back in 2020 just to have a beer and show her my old drinking hole. There was 1 single person there grilling hot dogs out back drinking around a fire as if it we were in somebody’s backyard. She was like what the frick is this? We had 1 beer and left. Haven’t been back since

You referring to Patio Lounge? Or The J?
I love Patio and think it’s actually pretty nice for a dive. Always very clean, and the owner drinks red wine so I can actually get wine instead of beer. And they cook huge spreads of food for games that actually looks good and is kept at proper temp.
The J… eh. I have a couple friends that practically live there, but it’s not really my scene. The patrons are a bit rougher, and the place is run down. I’ll go, but much prefer Patio.
Edit - I see you mean Patio. Give it another shot. It’s good times during the day.
I know what you mean though. The first time we ever went, we went out back where all the folding chairs are and it was all standing water and mosquitos. Wasn’t impressed.
