Is it possible that when you switched insurance it took 2 weeks to kick in?

The reason I ask is because I got in a wreck once, this black girl was messing with her radio and failed to yield and ran into me. She just got her auto insurance and supposedly it didn't kick in until two weeks from the day she got it. It was a big deal because I had to end up going through my insurance and I think they tried to sue her insurance company.. I just remember having no idea there was auto insurance that didn't kick in until after a certain period of time
