Let's see if I can state this without hurting anyone's feelings.
Back in 1799 when France owned both the Louisiana Territory and Haiti ,
France decided to ship some slaves from Haiti (it was a large sugar producer at the time) to Louisiana. Louisiana was also a productive sugar producer. Sugar Cane is a labor intensive agricultural product.
Look at Haiti today and we have many descendants of those slaves who originally came from Haiti to Louisiana today.
