Teams can’t avoid LSU’s pitching staff this season. Last season you would avoid Skenes because Floyd was very inconsistent (during the regular season) and LSU didn’t even have a Sunday guy.

Agree with your sentiment, but not your reason. Floyd went undefeated last year. He was 7-0 for the regular season.

Pitcher record can be a meaningless stat, especially when a team has a fantastic offense. Quality Start is a better metric. Floyd went longer than 5 innings in only 3 of 10 SEC starts which means LSU’s bullpen threw a ton in games he started. And LSU’s bullpen was horrible until the postseason. So yes, pitching off to face Floyd was a smart decision that teams did. He had outings of 3.1 at A&M, 3 at SC, 4.2 v Kentucky, 2.2 v Alabama, and 3.2 at Auburn. That’s half of his SEC starts not getting out of the 5th. (Plus only 3 in the regional and 3.1 in the super regional). I hate to rehash something for a guy who did figure it out in the end and won LSU a national championship but I had to remind you since I’m right about why teams pitched off. You could throw your ace against Skenes for 7 or Floyd for 3. It was a pretty easy decision.
The Mississippi State game was the perfect example of a team pitching off. It was a rare time Floyd got past the 5th, going 6 and giving up 1 run. The bullpen managed to turn a 4-2 LSU lead in the 7th into a 9-4 loss.
