They must be hurting for quality people though. The last few times I used a plumbing and HVAC service they sent kids out who had to call in back-up each time.

There is actually a fun series on the Register that covers stuff like this here.

Perfect. I've been reading the register lately but hadn't seen this series.

Not all company owners can be leaders. Leaders have to know when there is risk (this job involves cleaning X) or (I'm going to teach you how to replace the damper control board). Leaders have to know what kind of person is which. Find companies that have the right leaders. But also acknowledge that some peeps need to learn.

I've worked with some really, really, really shitty leaders. And some good ones; people that if they pinged me on LinkedIn, I'd quit my current job immediately. But how hard to do you think, as a 40+ year old, to anticipate what a 26 year old is going to do, or where their phone is going to end up overnight (somehow, there was massively stupid shite that went on with someone's phone, that shouldn't be possible.) (ETA:, the phone was apparently, but inexplicably, thrown through) Multiple walls, as reported. Plumbing, electrical, framing, and 4 sheet of drywall, lol. I'm sure he was high.
