I think they are paid pretty well for what they do. They get off at 3pm. They have long holidays off and the whole summer! They chose that career. Quit crying about this. They have great benefits too.

You sir are a fricking idiot! Love when people talk about teachers as if their job is easy! Until you have walked a mile in their shoes, shut the frick up!

I have been teaching for 12 years and every year the job has gotten harder and harder. This is why no one is going in the the profession anymore. There is a national teaching shortages and as more and more teachers quit for retire, the gap gets larger and larger. No one wants to go get a four year degree to deal with the bull shite we deal with on a daily bases. The long hours, paper work and BS from undisciplined kids are too much for many people to handle. Parents blame the teachers now days for everything little Johnny does wrong, rather than making their punk arse kid own up to the things the kid did wrong. Or, at the least admitting they are shity parents.

I coach football and I can tell you that I have never gotten off at 3pm! For all of the time I spend at practices in the fall, spring and summer, the games, travel time etc. I make about 26 cents an hour with the little stipend we get for coaching.

Kids now days are downright disrespectful and their parents allow it. Ever year we get a new curriculum to use that basically tells us that we don't know what we are doing and that we need to change our methods yet again. teachers are ridiculed everyday and watched like hawks from the administration. No other profession is watched " to make sure we are doing our job right " than teachers.

I am working on my master in educational leadership so that I can get our of the classroom because I am tired of being told that the way I teach is wrong, even though I have the highest grades in the district for my subject. One day there wont be enough teachers because of all of the BS we constantly deal with from people like you who are completely disconnected from what is going on.

I challenge you to be a substitute teacher for one week. If it so easy, then you should be able to handle it with flying colors. Before you shite on teachers, you need to walk a mile in our shoes.

I'm sorry man but your rant is really out of touch. Corporate America has nearly every problem named but worse, with inferior pension, inferior benefits, and none of the societal perks.

Long hours, check.
Unrealistic expectations, check.
Having to deal with people who don't care, check. I could go on and on.

This phrase in particular, you seem to have no idea how accurate you have to be in other industries such as construction, Healthcare, and finance. If your insurance agent types even one character of your VIN number incorrectly, you don't have auto coverage. And once fault is determined, the agency eats the cost. Think the agents are watched less closely than you??

Teaching is not the only highly regulated profession at all. Telling people to shut up when you need to do more research. Come on now. I've walked a decade in those shoes btw. What have you done outside of teaching? How many other people's shoes have YOU walked in??

The truth is that most jobs suck these days. Teachers are a large segment of society and summer break makes them "different" from normal 40hr/jobs. The differences polarize people & teachers end up discussed more frequently as a result. Teachers are neither saints nor martyrs.
