I don’t think it was.
96 was better. 2012 was the most athletic.
Malone, Stockton, Pippen, Barkley, and Robinson were on both and still in their prime.
So 92 had
MJ
Bird - back was dead at this point
Magic - retired after Olympics.
Laettner - not very good
Ewing - okay but but nearly as good as the 96 centers.
Mullin
Drexler
96 had
Shaq - was better than everyone but Jordan on the original dream team by 96
Olajuwon - same as Shaq and a lot better than Ewing
Payton - better player than Mullin or Drexler at this point.
Hill - pre injury was headed to superstar status
Miller - equal to Drexler
Hardaway - like Hill, pre injury he was awesome.
Richmond - I think this was the late sub in for Jordan. Still a lot better than Laettner.
92 all in their prime would have been the best, but at time of playing 96 was better.

Good post. You are right the 92 team gets a lot of credit for having all time greats Bird and Magic. In reality, Bird was on his last legs and Magic was passing the torch to MJ. But even without those guys the 92 team had prime MJ and Drexler was a poor man's MJ. i think you are underrating him a bit. Shaq and Hakeem in their primes is much better than Ewing. Tough call.

The dream team didn’t even need Magic and Bird to put up big numbers on the court. Those two guys, and Barkley, talked enough shite and held everyone else accountable for their entire run. The only other player in the world who could have played on that team was Isiah Thomas. Thomas being excluded is another topic altogether.
