Curious what your comfort level of an asset/stock holding being a % of your net worth.

For example, my NVDA holdings currently is about 8% of my net worth. I’ve always thought 10% is the amount you don’t want to exceed. Thoughts?

10% seems reasonable.

Also, you can have “dilution” risk with too many holdings.

I’ve always heard 12-15 individual stocks is enough “diversification” as long as they are different industries.

For MFs, some just go with broad based low cost funds.

My threshold is 10%. Tesla reached that towards the end of 2021 so I sold 40% of my Tesla holdings (4% of my net worth at the time). Tesla was near its all time high then, so I got lucky.

Now I’m nearing that 10% threshold with my company stock. It really should be 5% because if the company I work for tanks, then I could lose my job as well as the value in its stock. I just can’t bring myself to sell it.

I prefer under 5% and can live with under 10%. Anything over that is a level of risk I’ll never recommend.
