Bumping this because I'm going to Chicago in September and plan on attending the Oakland A's game Wednesday (9/18). Is there any advantage to buying tickets now or should I wait? I thinking on the 3rd baseline since I'll be with my wife.

Tickets are (generally/relatively) always pricier along third base, but also depends a bit on playoff contention. Don't think you need to push yourself right this moment, but periodically check and buy when you're comfortable. It's not terribly easy to predict where prices will go this early for a September game.

This shitty Cubs team will likely be well out of contention by then and if they are tickets will be super cheap. The start of college and NFL also takes away from attendance at weekend games, and people just sort of turn their minds into "fall mode".
Reiterating my suggestion to go bleachers your first time visiting. And it's fine out there with kids too. If you can get low enough the fielders will look for the kids to toss them a ball.
