cool. to satisfy my curiosity let me know what they say.

if its frank blood on vomit and darker in stool then it means its likely an upper GI bleed. somewhere in the esophagus, stomach or even duodenum.

could be lot of things. Ulcers high on the list.

Alright I finally talked to the vet.

He thinks it's acute gastroenteritis. That it took a while to show up (3 weeks after the new food) but is fairly common.

Blood tests were abnormal/low but he was having a hard time getting a good stick so it's common to have low platelets when you don't get a good stick.

Gave him a shot for vomiting and two prescription meds (not 100% on the meds, haven't picked them up yet). Told me not to let him eat for 24 hours but start him back on the hydrolyzed protein food tomorrow. If he throws up after eating that then we should bring him back in and put him on some IV fluids and do more tests because it might be more serious.

For now he thinks he'll be ok with the shot/meds/back to the old food. Said he's in a good mood and doesn't think he'll have to come back for it. Said he'd hold off on doing further tests unless he throws up more to help from running the bill up high.

So good news. Sound right to you?
