Why did you sit dead center? Makes it tough for others to choose which side.

There was an empty seat next to the grandson where she could have sat down at where all three of them would still be together.

Exactly my question. If I see an entire row of 11 empty seats, I'm sitting at an end so that I'm guaranteed to not have someone sitting on at least one side of me.

He sat in an empty row. There was nothing wrong with his seat Choice.
Middle seat is acceptable as is end seat. Really any choice is when empty, like a urinal
