Everything was riding on that forecast and if they got it wrong it had actual consequences. It wasn’t unheard of for a weatherman to be beaten in the parking lot of the news channel for a bad miss. Nowadays they just type a few things into the computer and it spits out up to 25 days. There’s no romance in it anymore. The local guys like to keep the 3 day up there as a reminder of when their jobs actually mattered.
