In White Rural Rage, Tom Schaller and Paul Waldman explore why rural Whites have failed to reap the benefits from their outsize political power and why, as a result, they are the most likely group to abandon democratic norms and traditions. Their rage—stoked daily by Republican politicians and the conservative media—now poses an existential threat to the United States.

Same for him. He sounds very independent and reasonable. You can tell he went into this book with no preconceived notions whatsoever.

The key to the stories about Trump's serial violation of the Presidential Records Act is that he was repeatedly told he was breaking the law, but he kept doing it. Same was true of the Hatch Act. His whole administration's attitude was that obeying the law was optional.

I'd like to thank Trump for giving me the opportunity to go on a little rant reminding everyone that the US Postal Service is a fricking marvel, and people's complaints about it are largely bogus.

I'm getting pretty tired of news organizations saying "It's unclear whether the president has the authority to do this" when Trump makes some lunatic claim about something he says he'll do which he obviously has ZERO authority to do.

"Why won't Democrats show more respect for working class Trump voters?" you ask, as Democrats beg them to be vaccinated against a deadly disease (for free), try to raise their wages, expand Medicaid, give them stimulus payments, increase their child tax credit...

Just getting started reading the gun decision, but every sentence so far makes clear what a joke and a scam "originalism" is. It continues to amaze me that anyone takes it seriously.

Frank Luntz on Fox just said his focus groupies concluded that Harris was "abrasive and condescending," by which we can assume they meant that she was a woman talking.

Though I have been analyzing politics for a long time, I have to admit I did not see "Republicans embark on nationwide project to bring back child labor" coming

I'm old enough to remember when Barack Obama said that if he had a son he'd look like Trayvon Martin, and conservatives reacted with unmitigated rage because Obama had expressed empathy for the parents of a black teenager who was murdered.

Joe Biden is a Democratic president. Which means:
1. He has to clean up a Republican's mess
2. He wants govt to do complex things
3. He gets held to standards no Republican has to meet

At this point if you told me they were going to have the cop who killed George Floyd address the GOP convention from jail I'd barely be surprised.

Maybe some super-rich Democrats could consider funding @staceyabrams 's national effort to protect voting rights at the level it deserves.

Protip: When you call Amy Coney Barrett an "originalist" you're repeating misleading propaganda, because every conservative judge who says that somehow manages to find the intent of the Framers in every right-wing position they wanted to take anyway. It's meaningless.

I've written about 1,500 columns about Donald Trump over the last five years.

This is the last of his presidency.

"Goodbye, Donald Trump. You were the worst of us."

It's not often we get to watch an election being stolen in real time, but that’s what's happening in Georgia

Yes, you can count on his book to be an objective masterpiece of scholarship about white rural people.
