An up-and-down offense
Coach Jay Johnson was not pleased with LSU’s offense after Saturday’s 5-2 win over Northern Illinois, sharing his displeasure with the Tigers’ positional players for 20 minutes following the game.
Johnson had a right to be displeased. LSU had just three hits in its win over the Huskies. It failed to record an extra-base hit the day before in its first loss of the season to Stony Brook.
The Tigers were impatient and failed to stick to a plan at the plate in both games. On Saturday, 11 of the 27 outs the Huskies recorded came on at-bats where they needed no more than two pitches to record the out.

Emerging right-handed relief options
Sunday was a rough day for the bullpen, but the unit was excellent during the prior three games of the series.
This is particularly true when it comes to LSU's right-handed relievers.
Ulloa, Guidry, and Dutton are the RHPs to be relied on right now. Moffett is coming along nicely though.
They needed to test Little on a back-to-back yesterday. It didn't work out, but he also didn't walk anyone. His two prior outings were just fine.
Likewise with Bucknam, he was great in his first outing but they needed to see him again on the same weekend to test him a little bit. It didn't work out, but it doesn't mean he won't contribute again
.
Overall, we're only stranding 58% of inherited runners though. That's what really needs to improve. No single guy is the main culprit, and similarly no particular guy has had enough chances to be the standout. It's still early, but in the aggregate we need to get better there.f

An up-and-down offense
Was always going to be the case after losing so many big bats off of last year's team.
Pitching and defense will be what carries this team in the SEC games, and I think we have the staff to win a lot of SEC series like that.
The offense is going to have it's moments, and I think it will continue to improve as the season progresses, but pitching will be the calling card of this team.

My biggest ask today is that Brady Neal get his throwing hand behind his calf. Everything else I feel is already on track to working itself out actually ahead of schedule honestly

My 5 takeaways:
1. I like Luke Holman, hopefully he's our Friday night starter
2. I am excited to see more of Milam, he's a gamer
3. We have deep pitching depth that will continue to develop
4. We are a much better hitting team when we are more patient and are seeing more pitches
5. I trust Coach Johnson to get us prepared for another run!

Another takeaway I got was Kling's nice weekend at the plate. After a slow start last week, he has his avg. up to .400, leads the team in OBP, and has very patient at-bats. He is your ideal leadoff hitter with how he approaches every at bat.
Hopefully he makes that same impact during conference.

I'm going to throw Jared Jones a bone too. He came into this season as the Rant Whipping Boy and he's been steadily improving his game offensively and defensively. It's still way too early to tell until we see some top level pitching, but he has clearly made some adjustments at the plate. He is laying off of bad breaking balls, working the count in his favor, and swinging with some confidence. The Bear is off to a great start.
