Wasn’t there talk about a pledge NOT to run independent about a year ago?

I wouldn’t be surprised if RINOs bail on that and actually encourage Haley to run Indy.

They would get roasted.

Doubtful. A majority of states have a "sore loser" law which means if you run in a party primary you can't then run as an independent or for another party in that state.

ETA: That's the main reason RFK Jr. dropped out of the DNC primary to run as an independent. If he had stayed in that primary he would've been barred from appearing on the ballot in a majority of states.
