Gila Monsters are different than Bearded Dragons. Probably more venom, painful bites. I wouldn’t let my kid have one just because they obviously bite and the bite is painful.
That being said, the last person to die from a Gila bite was almost a century (1-0-0 y e a r s) ago. Seems like someone just had a weak immune system or something. Mosquitos are more of a threat to humans than Gilas are.
