It makes no grammatical sense so it is unreasonable to ask of people. If you want to be called you/it that would make more sense. I'm all about people being able to identify as whatever they want but don't put that burden on me to remember to get it right when it contradicts everything that I've learned abut the English language.

“They” was supposed to be temporary until a non-gender specific pronoun for one person could be decided on, but the illogical grammatical issues it caused got them more attention and ways to get offended.
