Wrong.. At both my house and my parents house, I've seen hundreds of mosquitos in the carport- With crane flies mixed in but far less in numbers. Same at the dog park.
I believe it's mosquitos everyone is seeing. I wouldn't discredit the knowledge of the average person from Louisiana on being able to distinguish between the 2- I'd be willing to bet that most people from this state know the difference

It’s a mixture. I’ve got literally thousands hovering in my yard and around my patio. The majority are crane flies, but there’s a portion of ‘regular’ mosquitoes mixed in with them.
