If a player wants to drop a ball on purpose they should be able too. Make it interesting.

Instead of trying something interesting like that, they just give us shorter games.

THIS. If you induce a pop-up with runners on, you should have the chance at forcing the batter to run to first, a potential double play, "replacing" the runners, etc.
