They were never "punk"; they've always been communists. Tom Morello has worn hats with "commie" written on it since the early 90s. They've always fancied themselves as revolutionaries.

They were one of my favorites up until a few years ago but I just can't stomach the politics anymore. I can't listen to many artists now because of this; it's a recent phenomenon, at least for me personally.

I've always been able to separate the art and personal politics of the artist but we're at too critical of an inflexion point in this country/society to be able to ignore it any longer.

Drive By Truckers is one of the ones that's most disappointing. Can't listen to them anymore.

I’m at this point with Green Day now. I enjoy their music and energy but can’t ignore that BJ is some old, Cali dude with alcohol/drug issues. His opinion on politics doesn’t matter any more than mine.

I mean those clowns went so hard left they had to move to Portland to fit in.

So it’s not like you changed, they did.

They rejected their roots, their neighbors, the setting for most of their songs and the vast majority of their fans because they went all in on politics and had to interject it into their music because it defines who they are now.

I mean there were a shitload load of punk bands who flirted with pretty far left ideas for many decades
