But now republicans don't want any shutdown. There is no shutdown trigger in US law now.

You'd be well-served to stop with the bullshite. Your politics are different than most here so you're easily discounted when you type out something retarded like, "Republicans don't want any shutdown" of the border.

The problem with your position is that there doesn't need to be any sort of trigger to shut the border down. We can simply just shut it down.

An aside - am I correct in remembering your participation in a thread a couple years ago where you acknowledged that illegals were an economic catastrophe for the American underclass?

You remember correctly. The unregulated flow of migrant labor is a direct and significant harm to Americans, particularly in the manual trades. The flow of migrant labor must be restricted as a necessarily component of our labor law.

One of the worst features of the present law is that anyone who applies for asylum is granted work privileges during the pendency of their asylum proceedings. The proceedings take years and there are no limits on this game. The migrants applying for asylum, under current US law, are allowed free entry and work permit without quota or cap. And these migrants are lawfully present under present US law.

The law absolutely needs to be changed. Two aspects of the proposed law this year included more hearing officers to speed the asylum hearings (absolutely necessary), and limits on the numbers entering.

Under present US law, these asylum seekers are all lawfully present in the US, working lawfully, and there is no limit on the numbers. US law must change to close this down.
