Need recommendation for a portable car compass

Does anyone have a portable car compass under $50 that works? If so, what is the make and model. I need one for when I rent a car. My iPhone is my GPS and while driving I can’t quickly switch to the compass on my phone especially at night. The GPS tells me to go northeast, or southwest or whatever and I am like, what do I look like, Magellan?
I realize that there is metal in the car. However, I have read forums where people keep a compass in the car in case electronics fail. The brand that they use is Silva. I dunno. Boats also have compasses. I see compasses advertised online and on Amazon for use in boats or cars. I was just wondering if anyone here had used one.

Wtf are you using for navigation that doesn't have turn-by-turn instructions? Perhaps give Waze or something else invented in this century for directions.

I hope this is a joke and you aren’t actually going to use a compass in your car

All the modern gps apps I use tell me to make left or right turns. The only time they tell me to go north or south is at giant interstate intersections where they have signs that clearly show directions. “Continue north on Interstate 59 towards Hattiesuburg” This is also accompanied by visual directions on the app. What apps are you using that they just blindly tell you to go northeast at Main st?

Go to Settings, then to Maps look down where it says Directions and then lists Driving, Walking, etc. Click on the right arrow and turn on Compass with the "slide switch" in the Show In Navigation section it will turn green. This way when using Maps/Navigation it will show a compass in the upper left hand corner of the map section of the screen.
Alternatively, if you have Siri turned on you can just tell Siri to "open compass" then switch back with a swipe up on the screen that doesn't require you to hit a specific app.
